WHY IS LEGISLATION NEEDED?
** Catholic School Teacher's Suit Against School Revived, March 31, 2005, OC Register
A former science teacher at Santa Margarita Catholic High School has won the right to sue the Diocese of Orange over claims that he was retaliated against for reporting that the principal's son brought a gun to school.
Michael Bodkin contends in a lawsuit that he was fired from the Rancho Santa Margarita school after making the gun report in January 2001. The case was dismissed after the diocese countered that Bodkin was terminated for having inadequate teaching credentials. The principal transferred to another Catholic high school.
UPDATE: Jury trial scheduled in Orange County Superior Court April - 2006.

Catholic School Teacher Fired for Planned Parenthood Work
Sacramento, California. October - 2005.
Teacher fired from an all girls school by Bishop William Wiegand after a parent sent in a picture of her escorting clients into a Planned Parenthood medical clinic, BEFORE she accepted employment at the Catholic HS. The teacher volunteered once a week to help clients past abortion protestors who picketed at Planned Parenthood.
Bishop Wiegand’s dismissal said that the teacher's “public participation in the procurement of abortions is morally inappropriate and unacceptable.”
The teacher's performance in the classroom was never in question. She got high marks for being a dynamic and passionate teacher.
UPDATE: Civil lawsuit settled November 2005.

CA Voters Must Defeat Prop. 75
Prop. 75 is an attack on the teachers, firefighters, nurses and law enforcement, the core employees in CA that educate our children and protect our society from sex abuse, crimes and other dangers.
I am a non-union employee and in my opinon, the only employees in California who are protected from political or religious retaliations are the employees with union representation or the politically-connected in CA.
California is being managed like a "Strategic Lawsuit Against Public Participation". Employees and citizens, especially those who protect and educate our children and adults, must be free from political intimidation for exercising freedoms of speech, press or opinion. They must also be free to report violations of the law that protect children and adults from sex abuse crimes or other types of dangers, as Whistleblowers.
Republicans and corporate special interest groups should feel morally free to attack the unions that represent the rights of CA's workers, the non-politically connected citizens are strictly enforced statewide, without obstructions of justice or abuses of power.
Prop. 75 must be defeated by CA voters. CA was once a state that promoted the rights to freedoms of speech, press and opinion -- that is no longer true in CA.
Prop. 75 was introduced to intimidate and silence union workers in California. We can no longer place our children's education and safety in the hands of special corporate interests by attacking union representations of teachers, nurses, firefighters and law enforcement.
Vote no on Prop. 75!
