** CIVIL RIGHTS & EDUCATION
Do civil rights exist in Catholic/religious schools and organizations?

In response to the above postings and your quoting of a student at Loretto HS, the following letter was sent to Bishop Wiegand after I learned about Ms. Bain's termination (see "Letters").
Homosexuality and abortion are both against the teachings of the Catholic Church. Therefore, it would seem consistent with the teachings of the Catholic Church and your public statements, that ALL HOMOSEXUAL PRIESTS, TEACHERS AND SCHOOL ADMINISTRATORS, should immediately be removed from Catholic employment.
It is unfortunate that the Church did not protect children from sex abuse crimes with the same passion Bishop Wiegand has publicly stated because of a teacher's pre-employment activities.
Defaming one's reputation in a public forum is NOT something Jesus would do..... and it is my belief that all evil will meet its match, if not in this world, but in the next. I pray that the parents and students at Loretto HS will remember the serious consequences of casting stones on others.

CHILDREN WITH DISABILITIES:
Are children and families in Catholic schools protected from discrimination and retaliation?
If your child was forced to leave a Catholic school for reasons relating to any type of disability, please assist with supporting new legislation that will protect our precious children attending Catholic/religious schools. Children cannot protect themselves and need our protection!
Please contact rloof@worldnet.att.net if you have any questions or need a community of supportive listeners.

It was reported that Marie Bain has reached a settlement in her wrongful termination claims. When due process is extended to all persons equally, these types of disputes are usually resolved.
It is my sincere hope that Katelyn Sills and her family also receive the same due process extended to Ms. Bain so Katelyn can return to Loretto HS with her friends.
Two of my children, Brent Bodkin and Rachel Bartholomew, were told they could not complete their senior years at Santa Margarita Catholic HS in Orange County, California, in Sept. 2002. This decision by school administrators was made because of a labor dispute that arose after my husband, a teacher at the school, took responsibility for reporting an illegal gun possession of the principal's son, on the Catholic HS campus. He was denied his 9th year teaching contract after the gun report and felony gun charges were filed against the principal's son.
No child or family should ever have to face the long-term feelings of betrayal that continue after an arbitrary decision is made by the Catholic Church, without due process. Denying a child the gift of continuing a Catholic school education is disgraceful.
Our thoughts and prayers are with Katelyn Sills and her family.
